Injustice and Resistance [8/12/19]

The dream began at my house, early in the morning (2:00-3:00 AM). For a reason I don’t know, my mom was leaving and my two friends and I were sent on a mission. The world was corrupt and evil, ruled by a viscous queen who actually used the swastika as a symbol for her armies. Obviously, my family and I were against her rulership. But anyone who argued with the queen was killed immediately. As I was saying, two real friends were in the dream with me. For the sake of privacy, we’ll call them Katherine and Jasmine. I guess we were sent to infiltrate one of the queen’s bases. There must have been a war or crisis of sorts, because the base was for the public. People would bring stuff in and live there until... something. Never really got the details. The dream cuts to us first entering the base. It was surrounded by water on all sides, and workers for the queen would ferry people in between the shore and the gates. Katherine, Jasmine and I got on board one of the ferries and waited. In this time, my mom called me on my phone. She asked me if we were there yet, and I told her we were on the boat. I guess she had been calling several times throughout our trip to the base, but I can’t remember the other conversations we had. All I know is that, in the eyes of the queen, they would be damning. So anyways, I tell my mom I have to go and the boat carries us to the packed shore. The waters were frothy, and ice cold. Grey, rocky shores had been smoothed and were now covered in belongings as far as you could see, with people hurrying in between. It was awful crowded, and inconvenient (or convenient...) because stealing was made easy. But with the queen so close by, crime was not someone’s first instinct. As it seems, my friends and I pretended to unload our stuff normally, and I caught sight of someone trying to steal my bag. Such perfect timing. I chased him off aggressively and he scurried away. As we got closer to the base, I saw the queen herself. She was not guarded, as you would expect of a royal (especially one who thought so highly of herself)... and she was walking towards us. Actually, me. My friends were back a ways. I was holding my phone and a bag, standing helplessly alone as the evil queen approached me. She was old, with greying hair, and quite honestly very heavy. The queen stepped up to me and knocked my phone from my hands. “Oops,” she pretends to frown, “You dropped something.” Then she leans down and picks up my phone. I debate whether to try and take it back, but stay silent. “Now, Elizabeth.” She beckons me with one hand and we begin to walk closer to the base. “We understand you’ve been keeping in relations with your mother...” With this, my fate is sealed. She knows, and she will kill me for it. “Yes, I have.” I tell her honestly, and stop walking. She knows that I know that she knows. “Is your leadership so weak you must resort to spying on your subjects to maintain it?” I ask with a challenge. I doubt many people speak to her like this. When she doesn’t answer, I continue. “You are strong. You are powerful.” Behind her looms the ominous bass that might become my death bed. I am speaking the truth. “But,” now I bring myself up taller, “Injustice and resistance will always be stronger.” And then I shove the queen down, as hard as I can, and turn, sprinting to rejoin the crowd. I run as fast as I can. I push people aside until I reach Katherine and Jasmine. “What’s wrong?” Katherine asks, and I think Jasmine knows already. Actually, I think they both do, but it’s an affirmation Katherine doesn’t want to know. “She knows.” And then we all run, jumping over bags and dashing for our lives. I expect a panic as a furious queen returns, but I don’t see her. My friends and I each grab a sort of floatation device and jump into the icy water. In the dream, we swim much quicker than possible, and the distance is short. In the distance I see a line of pointed boats being drawn together at the gates to form a barricade defended by guns. Thankfully, they are not looking for three specks powering through the frothy white currents. With our small subdued floatation devices, we manage to make it through the wall of boats. The last thing I hear is the queen’s sirens before I wake up.
