The Snake

I woke up in a familiar room. Glancing around, I noticed it was an almost identical facimilie of my bedroom. The bed was still propped up against the far wall, and there was a desk that started just to the left of where I had awoken; a schoolish kind of desk, the ones with the thin plastic tops and thick metal legs. I had been sleeping with my back to the wall, sitting on the floor. To my right, there was a small pile of white fluff, and on closer inspection it turned out to be a dog. The dog was small and had white, curly fur, but something was staining it dark as night. I reached out a hand to see what it was that coated the dog's fur, but quickly pulled away again when I realised it was blood. In the dog's back there was a large hole, as if someone - or something - had decided to bite out a huge chunk of the small dog. The dog had obviously been placed there to guard me, but now I felt I had something more to be afraid of. Glancing nervously around the room, I realised at once that I was right. Underneath the desk, its head not two inches away from me, was the largest snake I had ever seen, it's long body curving away along the corner of the wall, and it's tail disappearing behind the bed in the opposite corner. Its head was the size of a rugby ball - bigger, even! - and I immediately froze stock still at the sight of its yellow eyes, pupils slitted down the middle, watching me. Slowly, slowly, I began to stand up. It was a risky move, but I knew there was no way I was staying in that room with the snake. The beast didn't move as I made my slow way across the room and reached infinitestimally toward the door knob. Just before my hand made contact, however, Dean came bursting into the room, wrapping an arm around my waist and telling me it was time for bed. Relieved, I tried to tell Dean about the snake, but he kept insisting there was nothing to worry about, even as we lay in bed and the snake began slowly, very slowly uncurling it's long, long, long body from underneath the bed...
