Dream: Not What We Seem

(This was the third of three very different dreams I had all in the same night.) I was a young woman named Rayanne Michaels. I was also a demigod raised amongst humans after having been found with no memories. I had no clue I had any abilities at first. There was nothing to tell that I wasn’t just a lost human child taken in by a loving human family. Eventually, I hit the age of 20 and had gone with my adoptive family on a summer trip. We stayed in a cabin my adoptive parents owned. I got separated from them when we went on a nearby hiking trail. Someone attacked me and I blacked out. When I came to, I was in a fenced-in space. I could hear a quiet humming... Or buzzing?... coming from the fence. A few feet away was another fence that had two people in it. A man close to my age and a boy, possibly his younger brother. The boy looked as confused as I did. The man looked to be calculating. I assumed he was making an escape plan but I wasn’t sure. "Don't touch the fence." The man told me. I nodded and stayed near where I could hear him without touching the fence. "What's your name?" The boy asked as he watched the path between our fenced areas. I assumed him looking for who captured us. "Rayanne. Most people just call me Raya." I told him, "How about you?" "Cory. And my brother is Cam." The boy said. The more I looked the more I realized he couldn't be much older than 10 or 11 in age. "Were you alone?" Cam asked me, “When they took you.” "Alone?" I paused and shook my head, "Not exactly. I'd gotten separated on a hiking trail. Maybe a minute if that." "We got separated too," Cory said as he looked to the ground. The humming sound stopped and I felt my eyes grow heavy. "Raya you need to fight it. Listen to my voice." Cam called out as Cory whimpered beside him. I could feel my body trying to go limp. Something wasn't right. I fought to stay tuned into Cam's voice and stay awake. “Don’t close your eyes. Stay with us.” Cam called out to me, “They take away the ones that go under. If you stay awake you can fight.” I nodded, my eyesight blurry, and slowly got to my feet. I looked to the pathway between our fenced areas. Something shimmered in the air. More of it appeared before a man and woman appeared. They had tattoos across their bodies that seemed to be made with a gold shimmer type of ink. Their clothes were silken flowy garments with hooded cloaks. As my eyesight adjusted I could see their eyes were like looking into pools of molten silver. “Char...ziel…?” the name managed to escape my lips yet I didn’t know where it came from. The man looked me over and waved the woman over. They spoke in a language I couldn’t completely understand. It had an elegance and a fierceness to it. “How do you know that name?” the man asked me. I shook my head, “I… I don’t…”  “Where is Charziel?!” the man snapped at me. I shook my head and stepped back from the fence. The tattoos on his skin shimmered more. They seemed to move across him in some kind of rhythmic dance. I felt my pulse quicken. There was a thrumming in my head. I closed my eyes for just a second but in that second it felt like everything just stopped. I opened my eyes and the people in front of me were frozen. I took the chance and climbed up the fence, the electric current frozen, and dropped down on the other side. I pushed open the fencing for Cam and Cory. I ran to them and grabbed their hands. With that touch they suddenly weren’t frozen. “What’s going on?” Cory asked. “How’d you get in here?” Cam asked in surprise, “You were just over there.” “No time. We have to go!” I told them, trying to get them to move. Cam had Cory get on his back and we ran off from the fences. We rushed through the nearby treeline. Taking off as fast as we could towards some kind of hideaway. Time passed. I’m not sure how much time. We found a small den to hide in. I could feel myself trying to drift off again. My eyes were heavy. I hurt so much. Cam had taken up watch near the den entrance. Cory was sitting by a fire we’d made. “How did you do all that back there?” Cam asked me. “I don’t know,” I put a hand to my head. The thrumming was back, “I don’t know what’s happening to me.” “And here we thought you were just a normal human,” Cam snickered as he leaned against part of the den entrance. “You talk like you aren’t,” I muttered as I sat back against the wall of the den. Cory looked over to his brother who sighed. Cory then turned his attention to me, “We aren’t. We’re wolves. We can take on human forms to survive amongst them.” “Or so we thought,” Cam cut in, “Then again, those things weren’t human.” I shook my head, “They were looking for Charziel… a seraphim…” “I thought you said you didn’t know what was going on,” Cam sneered. I looked over at him as I gently rubbed my temples. “I don’t. Not exactly. It’s in pieces.” I took in a steady breath, “I lost my memories as a kid. Was found by a good family. Whatever they are… those people… Charziel… some part of me knows them.” “Sounds like we’re all a bit strange here,” Cory said with an awkward laugh. I was pretty sure he was trying to lighten the mood. “Where should we go from here?” I asked them. “You shouldn’t go back to your family. We don’t know what those guys are but I get a feeling they aren’t good.” Cam told me. “Yeah… don’t want to lead them there…” I mumbled before wincing in pain. The thrumming was getting worse. “You should rest.” Cory said before looking to his brother, “Right? She needs rest after whatever she did back there.” Cam nodded, “Yeah. Rest. We’ll keep an eye on you. I promise.” I nodded and Cory snuffed the fire. He came over and sat beside me. Cam stayed at the den entrance. “Both of you get some sleep. We’ll need to move places again soon enough.” I nodded and soon was out cold. Yet behind my eyes, I saw flashes of a life I didn’t remember. A life of magic and time manipulation. A life in the skies away from most of the world. Where I watched the world below… dreaming of seeing how they lived. I saw flashes of Charziel, a seraphim… one of the most powerful angels… and my father. He had fallen for the goddess of time, my mother, and through them the creation of me. A demigod with my mother’s abilities… locked away… until the stress of those other angels caused them to unlock. Time passed by once again. Cam, Cory, and I made our way to a small town just beyond the forest. We jacked someone’s car and drove off for a while. Cam said he knew somewhere for us to go. Someone who might have some answers. I awoke after that.
