For context, the client I work with is very low functioning and non verbal. He drools and wears a helmet and he will simply be referred to by his initials. I was asleep on the couch when I startled awake by TN giggling my apartment somewhere down the hall. I could hear him sprinting around in the dark at an inhuman speed and from that aline, I guessed that whatever it was wasn't human. I was paralyzed by fear. It kept whispering, "it's time to open your eyes." And for awhile, I fought not to. I pretended to continue to sleep until it said it knew I was faking. So, fighting against heavy lids, I managed to barely peek out of my right eye. It felt like fighting against being groggy. I finally got it open in time to witness that thing sprint right infront of the couch, practically at the arm rest. I wasn't going to look at it because I didn't know which would be creepier: that thing just standing there watching me or that thing taking up all the picture frames above me and moving across them like Harry Potter paintings. So instead, realizing I was dreaming now, I pushed myself forward to slowly lower myself face first into the carpet as the surface broke like water. I was welcomed by a calming darkness that quickly engulfed me. I submerged myself into some bottomless lake to get away and fully opened my eyes as I flipped to find the bright "surface" but I had no intention of swimming up. Or, anywhere really. It was quiet and I no longer heard that that thing talking to me. I shut my eyes again to focus on my breathing (yes, underwater) and to feel my body relax into the water's calming pressure. I began fading from the dream and easing into being awake. It was a surreal experience.
