the afterlife is a movie theater

Complete and absolute Blackness. Then dim light, followed by the inviting smell of popcorn and the soft fizzle of a soda machine. Red carpet and pop music enveloped me. I knew I was dead. And so was She. How we became dead I couldn't quite remember. But She would know. She was here somewhere, I just had to find Her. I prowled the lobby and scanned the popcorn stand, but She was nowhere to be found. Entering a shadowed theater, I spotted Her a couple of aisles down. Squeezing past a few scattered onlookers, I stumbled into the seat next to Hers. ”Why are we here? What happened?”, I gasped, clutching the armrest and looking to Her for answers. ”Shhh”, She put Her finger to Her lips, never taking Her eyes off the magnificent, glowing screen, ”It’s getting to the best part”, she pointed. I followed her gaze, and my eyes landed upon a brilliant display of violent anguish as the final scene (depicting the two of us being struck by a thousand shining bullets) played out. The screen faded to complete and absolute Blackness.
