Eye Holes Society

I was living in a dystopian society where you were constantly monitored by a religious oligarchy government. There were little holes in the floor called eyes with fires burning underneath. The fires represented the eternal nature of the god/deity/figure that was center to the religion. The holes in the floor were concave and shallow and there were small holes in the middle, presumably for the camera. You had to paint the holes with wax, and could never let the wax burn up completely or they (the government) would come for you. The wax was burned up by the fires underneath. Everyone was terrified of them coming to talk to you. The religion reminded me of the cult like aspects of Mercerism combined with the brutality, extremism, and fear mongering aspects of a Handmaids Tale Christianity. In the dream I let the wax go out, and the people in the house (who I was living with) started to panic. My boyfriend (maybe?) told me to stay in the house because he was worried about being tracked. If I went outside then it would appear to the government that I was fleeing. Woke up before they came to my house. I suppose this system would encourage large households so that someone was always there to refill the holes with wax. And people could not get into much trouble because they were always at the house. Would make for an interesting sci-fi movie!
