Cult

I dreamed I was raised in a religious cult. Almost everyone I know was there, it was huge. We lived on the top of a mountain in the middle of some kind of nature preserve. My parents weren’t there. I really didn’t like the cult’s teachings but I mostly stayed in line. The only other person living on the mountain was my religious studies teacher from college, except she was a librarian with a lot of books. Even the outside of her house was made of bookshelves. Eventually the cult caught me doing two things against the rules; wearing too much makeup and dating another boy, someone else in the cult (his name was Devon and I know him IRL, we went to high school together.) This was enough reason to kick me out. The other young people had kept my secrets for a long time but none of them were brave enough to stand up for me. I quickly packed a bag and tried to escape down the mountain, but some of the older members of the cult followed me. One of them in particular nearly caught me. He said killing me would appease the spirits I had angered by rebelling. I saw a girl my age from the cult (Stephanie, also from high school) and begged her for help. She created a distraction long enough for me to escape by climbing up the bookcases on the outside of the librarian’s house. The librarian saw me but when the cult reached her she pretended she didn’t know where I was. As I ran away I remembered I’d left my passport behind, and I made a mental note to contact Leo and have him send it to me.
