Aliens or something

It was mostly a fantasy setting on a different planet where fresh water was so rare and hard to find that humans and pretty much every animal had developed able to drink sea water. The world was covered in islands, no major continents anything. Some guy woke up on some island he didnt recognize with nothing but the clothes on his back so he wound up having to go around hunting animals to get basic things like food and something to carry water since the only source of salt water on this island was the ocean. Eventually he made some friends who helped him get on his feet and they started some little business selling things the main guy made, winding up as traveling merchants of sorts. At some point they found a little crater of fresh water, but it was seen more as a natural wonder than something to drink.
