My best friend, Raich, moved into a new modern apartment some stories up in an urban skyline and invited our mutual best friends, Jamie and Liz, and Omar over. We were gathered around the TV and it occurred to me that I found clips of a Filipino drama my dad starred in way back in the day when he was a celebrity* that I wanted to show them. While I was searching for it on YouTube, Raich received a delivery from Costco for a bulk order of Popcornopolis. I managed to find a full episode of the show, which was about a pantheon of Asian gods all coming together to defeat some evil. The video was surprisingly high quality considering it was filmed in the 70s. The storyline was cheesy, but admittedly interesting; however, my dad only had a brief cameo as a lesser god. Afterward, Raich and I climbed her fire escape to get to her roof. There were gates at each floor that we had to wriggle between which I observed to be more of a death trap if anything. We eventually make to the roof and we can see a vast grassy park below that forms a peninsula surrounded by an ocean. Somehow all of us are now at the coastline and there's only a few feet of sand before there's grass. The tide starts receding, then reaches way into the park, gaining more distance each time. Several of the people on the beach get soaked, but I manage to run further inland so the water only gets up to my ankles. I started looking out for signs of a tsunami, but instead see several thin tornados scattering the sky. Some are on land and others on the water. It's unnerving to me, but no one else seems to find them threatening. Everyone is in awe of the tornados though that I start to wonder if people just realize there's nothing that can be done about them. *My dad was a singer in the Philippines for a short time and appeared on a variety show.
