Day of the Dead

It was Dia de Los Muertes, and ever since I took Spanish class back in middle school I’ve always wanted to celebrate. I rounded up my friends and we ended up at this church where everyone was dressed in these elaborate traditional fabric and marigolds were everywhere. At one point my friends, and I got separated and I ended up meeting this old lady who was reading peoples lives or whatever. She have people step onto a scale and it would tell you whether or not you were going to Hell and why. I did the little ritual and once I stepped on the scale I felt my feet burn. I wasn’t in pain but shock as the image of a soldier being dragged into the ground lit up. Then the words “The truth is your downfall, Lie to preserve”. I was spooked. I asked the lady what that meant and she just pulls out a little book with charms and hands me a four leaf clover for honesty. At this point it’s time to go and my ma pulls up to pick me up. I see my friends waiting for me, yet we drive past them. I’m not that worried. I ask my ma If dressing in the fabrics for Dia de Los Muertes was cultural appropriation or appreciation because I really want to take part in it next year
