Japanese Samurai Fox spirits?

I dreamt of 2 Fox spirits, Kentaro and Jintaro. Kentaro is fire element. Tall with long bushy orange hair, dressed in a red short sleeved kimono over a white undershirt. Jintaro is water element. Also tall, with stright black hair, in an ice blue kimono over a white undershirt. They were friends in childhood studying swordsmanship until Kentaro turned hostile towards humans. He was locked up into a set of 2 paintings: One a portrait of him facing straight ahead, another portrait of him with his back turned and his head to the side. His back is exposed showing an intricate flower tattoo. Jintaro is left to roam free and be with humans. He becomes my friend and I call him Jin. But over time I notice some changes. He is snarkier, shows his fangs more often, more childish. He is usually reserved and dignified. It turns out that Kentaro somehow switched his spirit with Jin to be outside. No wonder the flower in the tattoo was delicate and blue. I'm not even sure Kentaro even has a tattoo, but Jin does. I cry on the painting and Jin in Kentaro's body is released. After a while tho, their personalities switch again, and I think Kentaro may be back in his real body.
