1) I am taking a bus home but it ends early. A cop offers to drive me and P to our homes. He’s acting threatening towards her, and insist that he drops her off before me so she doesn’t end up in the car alone with him. She tries to do what he wants to appease him and avoid violence. I do what I can to intervene and stop him, but we are powerless. Somehow another cop car arrives and arrests him. At the police station, we have to wait a long time. There are many others waiting, mostly sex workers, who have also been mistreated by the cops. One very tall Black woman hits her head on the top of the door frame. I make conversation with a couple women to try to boost their spirits. 2) In the parking lot outside work, a student is throwing their shoe at a window. I take it and tell them about when I was a student and someone threw a snowball through the window, shattering it and getting glass in the faces of the people inside. He doesn’t care. I keep the shoe and we go inside. I say I’ll return it if he promises not to throw it again. He refuses to make the promise, but I return the shoe anyways. Upstairs, all the rooms and halls are covered in stacks of blue boxes. I have a secret office I go into. I try to make a sandwich, but I don’t have enough bread, so it’s very tiny. 3) I am designing a beach for a story or game. It’s in Antarctica, but not very cold. I want to demonstrate that something weird is happening. There are shipping containers in the water from crashed ships. I decide that they should be random far from the cove and organized as we get closer. Near the beach, the colours and orientations become less random. The containers are all floating vertically, and some are several stacks high. 4) On a pathway, I encounter a calico cat with a harness wrapped around its neck and tail. I carefully disentangle it and explain to the girl who owns it that this is a bad idea. You can buy harnesses that they like. We’re at a cottage on a lake. In a clearing is a structure that feels like it was made in a video game. It’s made for cats, and the calico cat is relaxing there. On a top floor, which I can barely squeeze into, is a version of my childhood stuffed animal, Doggy Woggy. This version is bleached white by the sun and had a head shaped more like a rat than a dog, very pointy. I take it with me and put it in my back pack, as a gift for a young child.
