Painting with Period Blood

I was working in this elementary school with a bunch of women who appeared to be feminists. And they were doing an arts and crafts project where they were collecting their period blood and allowing the children to paint with it. I was a little disturbed by the idea because the kids where very young like maybe first grade, and I didn't know what kind of pathogens might be in these teachers blood, and what if they touched it with their hands?!? but they had clearly already been working on this project for a while because they had a large red painting that had many hours of work put into it and I was the only teacher, so I went along with it. Before we began painting, the woman sat in a circle and talked about their periods, in order to normalize it for the children, and two teachers mentioned how they could feel the blood building up in their throats?!? So they had a couple children take a paintbrush, and scrape the handle against the teachers' necks in a downward motion. Then they collected the blood out of sight and there were different tones of red, that we used to color in black outlined segments that had been previously drawn and needed to be colored. I can't recall what the painting was, but it was such a strange dream.
