I lived in some other town and found an arts and culture center one evening that was mostly empty and started to explore it. In a far end of the building, sort of hidden by a large marble staircase and surrounded in plants and alcoves, I found a motley troupe of people who all played string instruments. Mostly violin, viola, cello and stand up base, but also related and complimentary ones like guitar and dulcimer. I was very interested and tried to figure out if they'd let me jam with them. I went and got my violin and brought it to them and played for them some classical and fiddle pieces I can manage with my limited skills. They were mildly impressed and interested seeming. In the next part of the dream, I was home and realized I'd accidentally left my violin with them. I've had it most of my life and got really panicked about leaving it there. When I got back there, the people were gone but my violin was fortunately still there in its case near the stairs. When I got it home though, I discovered that they had stolen all the nice parts of it and replaced them with cheap or used parts. The pegs, strings, bow and even scroll were all different and it was put together badly. For some reason my dream brain took this to mean that I needed to practice diligently, as much as possible, and get good enough to convince them I was worthy of having the good parts returned to me.
