Floating Desert

My father brought us to a beach-like island, except that the island covered in sand was directly floating on the water unlike beaches that have sand sloping downward. On the other side of the island were tall buildings, the place looked like a city or a desert beside the sea, it looked like somewhere in United Arab Emirates. I'm not sure if he told us not to swim or not to swim far, and we agreed with him, since going to the water is like diving a very deep ocean instantly. We just get to that place because we joined him, he was just going to talk to someone.
