Revisiting my College After Walking Through a Snow Storm

I was sitting at a bar at a ski resort, and ordered a Manhattan. The wall behind me was floor to ceiling glass, looking out toward the slopes. Light beamed in and the place was very bright and airy; sort of upscale, and I couldn’t see the top of the mountain from inside the bar. I noticed an aquarium on the bar which contained a sea turtle, and two fish which I couldn’t really identify. They were probably about 1-2 feet long. The sea turtle was hardly moving at all which sort of concerned me, and I was about to ask about it. Suddenly, while I was sitting there, the TV volume went up, which caught my attention and it announced a big college football game happening later in the day. The announcers were saying it would be the biggest game of the century, and it happened to be at my old college! Right after that, the TV turned off, and the bartender came over and asked if there was anything he could do for me. “No, thank you”, I replied. “How much for the drink?” I asked. The bartender replied “You’re good. Come back again soon!” I left a few dollars on the bar, and as I was walking away, a young man of South American descent came up and put his hand on my shoulder. He was a bit shorter than me, and had an accent. “Hey buddy, how’s it going? Are you still going out with Paulina?” (We were walking outside in the snow at this point) I told him I was good, and that I haven’t heard from her in a couple years. I was telling him about the big game I heard about earlier, and as I was explaining it, he said “You should go! That sounds great, friend.” Just then, a group of guys pulled up on snowmobiles, super excited and rowdy, and he turned to me and said “Well, there’s my crowd. I will see you later!” I waved goodbye and kept walking. The dream sort of split at this point, and I was walking uphill through the snow. The sky was still bright, but the wind picked up and snow started falling. It looked like I was flying through space at light speed and the snowflakes were stars and various objects in space. I put my head down and kept walking, and soon the snow came to a stop and I saw two guys, wearing shorts and t-shirts with long socks and furry boots, playing catch near the top of the hill I was climbing. At this point, the hill tapered off into a gradual slope, and one of the guys ran down in front of me. The other guy threw a statue (kind of like an Oscar, but it was orange), over his head, and over my head but I jumped up to attempt to catch it so it wouldn’t fall down the hill. I looked back and saw it stick in the snow. I could no longer see the bottom of the hill, or anything else behind me. It was like I walked for thousands of miles, because when I turned back around, I noticed that it was very sunny, and I was on my old campus. It was a bright, sun-shiny day and people were all walking around having fun. I shrugged to the two guys and continued my walk uphill, and everything started to get really warm, quickly. I was still dressed in my jacket, snowpants, hat, and boots. The man in front of me ran right past me downhill to get the statue, and I looked back briefly but continued walking forward. As I was looking around, I noticed one of my old fraternity brothers, Gary, walking & talking with three girls. I ran up to say hi, and he looked over, smiled and raised his arms to the sky. “What the hell!? I haven’t seen you in years! How have you been buddy?” (He looked exactly the same as I remembered him from college) “I could say the same thing about you”, I replied. “I’m doing well. I heard about the big game and I had to drop in to check it out.” “Great!”, Gary replied. “Walk with me, the boys will be glad to see you. Oh, ladies, this guy is a living legend, by the way! Oh man, today just keeps getting better and better.” I smiled and kept walking with them. That’s actually something he would say in real life. I walked with Gary to a building on campus that I wasn’t really familiar with. The girls kept going. We went inside and he turned to me and asked “What are you wearing a snowsuit for? You can’t possibly be cold on a day like this.” I explained the story of how I was at the ski resort and walked into a snowstorm and ended up at the college, and he just replied “That’s crazy. Well come on, Ryan should be here.” We walked into a locker room, and sure enough Ryan was there. He looked different. He was toned up, and had a lot better style now. He also had a neatly trimmed goatee and a more modern, short hairstyle. He was tying his shoes, then he looked up to see who was coming in, and smirked “Eli, good to see you bro. I was wondering when you’d be back. How long are you staying?” “I don’t know.” I replied. “I just ended up here after hearing about the big game today, and all of a sudden I ran into Gary. It’s good to be back.” “Oh shit, that’s right. The game! Listen guys, I gotta go get ready for the game, but feel free to stop by later and we’ll catch up before then.” “Sounds good.” Gary and I both replied at the same time. Gary told me that he was pretty sure my locker was still there, even though I haven’t been at the college in 2 years. Also, those guys were seniors when I was a freshman, so it was weird that they were still there. Before Ryan left, he asked if he could check out my horoscope. I laughed because it was an unusual request but said “sure, go ahead”. He said “great, what’s your birthday?” I gave him my birthday, and then I woke up from my dream.
