It’s not sweet, Pheebz!

I’m in a foreign country (possibly Japan) in some sort of fast food restaurant or probably a hostel. I’m at a table with a person whom I currently don’t remember. I think my waitress is Pheobe from “Friends”. She serves me a can of soda with my food. The can looks peculiar: it seems to have an inner compartment of some sort and only the top half is hollow, which she refills. I finish the soda pretty quickly and she refills it for me multiple times. I tell her that the can won’t fill up completely because of the comportment. She and the person at the table explain to me that I should tightly squeeze the can to allow the drink to go inside the inner compartment, which has sugar. I do as they explain. “Now how does it taste after mixing with the sugar?” She asks with a smile. “It tastes exactly the same!” I reply, but I second guess my self as I get a hint of some other faint taste there, but not sweetness.
