Train to New Orleans

We are rushing to the train station with tickets for my kids and grandkids to New Orleans. It is a surprise trip. They don't know the destination. The train leaves at 2:25. So many delays, I get them to the depot around 2:20ish, but there's no chance we can make it through customs and check-in in time. I hope we can get the next train. Must be one every hour. The kids are in the waiting room, white plastic chairs, playing on the floor, eating poutine. Already a good day for them. I realize I don't even have a passport, and neither do the kids. Good thing we missed the train as we would have been stuck at the border. I go to the ticket counter to see if I can make a change. They are non-commital. I walk past the counter to the office and barge in. They know me. L&A follow me but I tell them to return to the waiting room. Still a surprise. Where should we go where we don't need a passport? Vancouver? Halifax? I wake up thinking, Should have just taken them to Niagara Falls.
