In this dream, it was my first day of being at a college campus and I had classes first thing the next day. It was pretty late when I got there but the people that I was rooming with decided we needed to stay up and talk. In the dorm, which for some reason was an exact replica of my room but bigger, one of the roommates brought their dog while the other brought a hand soap that promised to “wash the mind of impurities while whatever was making the person washing their hands upset would show up on a small screen above the soap holder”. Before my roommates got into the dorm, I was setting it up with dolls I had and was putting my belongings on one side. I heard rumors of the people I was rooming with taking people’s belongings if they didn’t divide the room properly. I went as far as getting plastic tubes out that were taller than me and setting them vertically by the beds to show which side of the room was mine. When we were figuring out what to talk about during the late hours, one of the roommates (there were just two with me) asked if I knew about the children of the dead quickly after looking at the dolls I had brought. The other roommate got excited as soon as I was asked about this. I held the dog like a baby and replied, “No, what about them?” The girl who asked me if I knew about them then asked, “Where did you get that doll?” I told her I found them in my backyard, and the two roommates looked at each other in disbelief. They started to tell me the true story while visuals for it went into my mind: In the early 1950s in America, a non-contagious disease broke out in young children and infants. Doctors later on had no idea what it was and began calling the victims of the disease “children of the darkness”. Anyone who carried this disease would turn stiff, like a doll, while their skin would turn porcelain, until a week into suffering from it they could no longer move and ended up dead. The disease was so rare that doctors, when it first began to spread, would tell the parents of the children that they were simply suffering from a common cold. When the parents saw their children stop breathing and turn doll-like, they would call an ambulance, just to have the ambulance get there and tell them that they were delusional if they really called the ambulance on a doll. The parents could not give the child a proper burial, so they would resort to burying their children around their own homes. I had just discovered that there was a chance I had been carrying around a corpse, and was shocked. When I looked down, the dog had peed on me, so I ran to wash my hands. A doll showed up on the screen above the soap.
