Zombie dystopia

I was in a near future were a lot of the world’s population had either been killed or gotten a zombie disease. These zombies were weird though, because they looked normal except their eyes had cloudy white irises and I think they died shortly after being infected. Of my immediate family, only me and my mom had survived. We were holed up in our house, hiding from the zombies. Even someone who looked normal could be a zombie; you couldn’t trust them until you saw their eyes up close. I remember wondering just how many people were left in the world. Half? A third? Or even less? I was checking news sites and other online things on my phone but there was very little updates, like it was all shut down or most of the employees had died. My mom said that she thought some my dad’s family in the western US was still alive. She wanted us to take a cross country road trip to go get them and become a larger family unit. We also added a random survivor guy to bolster our group and started driving. We drove and got to some metropolitan place like Kansas City. There weren’t many people, but there was some sort of security checkpoint system to check if those entering were zombies or not. Eventually a guy walked up to my mom and bit her before she could react.
