Fired for not paying my rent

I was at my desk at work when our bookkeeper came into my office. She told me our boss wanted to talk to me in his office. She followed me into his office. He told me that I was being let go because I wasn’t paying my rent on time. I was confused because I paid on time every time. Then the bookkeeper reminded me that today was the 10th and that I hadn’t paid this month yet. I hadn’t realized it was already the 10th and they were right, I didn’t pay for this month yet, but I also didn’t see how I should be fired over it. I pleaded with them to let me pay it right now. I started writing the check to my landlord and got out an envelope. They watched impatiently. I desperately wanted to check my bank account balance before writing the check but I felt extreme pressure from my boss and the bookkeeper. I also didn’t know my landlord’s address from memory but I had it written down in my phone. The rest is blurry, I tried to write his name on the envelope but kept messing up under the pressure. I knew I was for sure losing my job.
