I was a college junior and about 21. I had been studying sociology and the metaphysical. My main professor and I had become friends outside the classroom. Just friends. He was maybe 7-8 years older than me. It was a stormy night. I was on the closing shift at my the coffee shop I worked part-time. My professor, Jamie Michaels was his name, had been driving by as he saw me walking home. "Do you need a lift home?" He called out from in the car. I looked in and gave a small smile, "Thanks. I'd appreciate it." I climbed into the vehicle and buckled in. He nodded in approval and we drove off. It was silent but a calm silence. He had the radio on the local classic rock station. We kept on our route. At the following turn I noticed flashing lights behind us. "Seems we're being followed." Jamie stated and pulled over as the cops drew closer. They didn't park. They just drove past us and ahead, turning onto my street. "Jamie…?" I started. "Yeah. Let's see what's going on." He stated and we drove the last bit to my home. We parked on the curb of my neighbor's yard and went up to the house. We heard gunshots start firing and next thing I know… Jamie and I both have bullets going through us. His ajrm and my shoulder. We pushed towards where the police were and they explained that someone they'd been chasing had run in and pushed ahead. My aunt, cousin, and uncle were in there. Panic quickly gripped me. Next thing I knew, Jamie and I were in the upstairs room with my cousin's bedroom locked. My cousin had the window opened as we tried to help her slide down to the aid of some cops. Her bedroom door was being shot at to be opened. Jamie was trying to push me towards the window and down to the cops. I tried to get him to quickly follow. More shots were heard. I closed my eyes. My eyes opened after some silence. I blinked as I looked around me. I was in the coffee shop entrance, locking it up behind me. "Do you need a lift home?" Jamie called out and my heart squeezed in my chest but I still climbed in the passenger seat. "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results." I thought as I buckled in. We drove off with the classic rock station going once more. He drove us about halfway to my home before pulling over. I immediately looked behind us to see if there were cops but there weren't any. Jamie put a hand on my shoulder and gave an awkward smile. "Are you alright?" He asked cautiously. I nodded, "Just a long night." Then I heard the sirens. Cops flew by the car and I felt panic rise in me. I squeezed my eyes shut in hopes that it would go away. And it did. I opened my eyes and once again I was locking up the coffee shop. Everything played out the same as before. Yet now Jamie and I were both on the ledge outside my cousin's room. Her bedroom door being shot in as I held tight to his hand. We both jumped. (I awoke after that.)
