City of Houston tears down fencing, gates, and barriers of any kind due to recent disasters and damages. The pool in our backyard had turned into a green, opaque cesspool where you could not see the bottom. My brother, Cade, was suddenly yelling and pointing to the pool. I glanced out the window to see a young girl inside of it. "She's in there because they knocked down all the fences," Cade said. The lost girl showed no sign of harm, but stood there with just her head above water, emotionless. We saw something emerge from the water, making it ripple after its sudden movement. "Is that a hippo?" I said aloud, taken aback that this was happening. I remember wondering how the zoo animals got loose, but had no time to ponder possibilities. The hippo emerged fully to show itself, but then transformed into a crocodile as it slowly sank down into the murky depths of the pool. It launched out again, this time aiming its chomping jaws for the little girl's head. The crocodile locked onto it and her body followed after as they both sank. We both gasped in shock. Then Cade was in the deep end of the pool, and I looked over to my abuela in her familiar white dress with tiny flowers, who was watching the scene unfold. I ran after him, screaming, "Cade! You idiot, what are you doing?" I was desperately running through ideas in my head that could get him out of there. When my brain wasn't thinking fast enough and no ideas arose, I jumped in too. "Now we're both in here!" he said, annoyed. I could feel swift movement under our feet. "GO! GET OUT!" he yelled suddenly. We frantically made a break for the curb of the pool, where we tried to climb out. I kept slipping, as my upper body strength was lacking. Finally, I managed to get out as my brother hoisted me out of pool. We stood there out of breath and looked down into the water for any sign of the crocodile. Something peculiar slowly emerged from the water, and I suppose curiosity caught the cat. I stuck my hand slowly inside this object, and it began sucking my hand in. The suction was so powerful that it caused the rest of my weight to lean towards the pool, almost falling in. I screamed for Cade and he readily pulled my arm out. Cade walked back inside as I sat back by the pool watching the water. A small, man-monkey hybrid appeared right by the curbside of the pool. Another object emerged, this time it was clear that it was a sort of large funnel. Once again, curiosity took me hostage as I found myself reaching into it. The suction was far more powerful, however. "You fell for it again!" the creature laughed maniacally in a high pitched tone. I screamed for my brother, with what may have been my last breaths. I squirmed and violently shook my arm in hopes there would be a moment of weakness in the deadly grip. Cade never came. I fell in and could see the crocodile circling around me, a predator ready for its prey. I made the first move and dashed for him. Catching his jaws with my hands as they tried to clasp down around me. The dream suddenly flashed forward, and the water was drained out the pool. A man was sitting on the steps now as a policeman was questioning him. Somehow I had known that this had been the hippo and the crocodile. That he was somehow a shapeshifter. * This was all I got to before my alarm sounded off. When I woke up, I was royally pissed at dream me for being so dumb in this. Perhaps the shapeshifter had some sort of power of persuasion that led me to reach into a watery hell hole. * Side note: I'm upset with myself because I am fighting to remember the previous dream, but cannot. Does anyone have any tips on how to remember your dreams?
