Splendour

This is both a dream and a movie I watched in the dream, and a book I read in the dream. It’s in the high arctic, in a small town. A girl with blonde hair and cat eye glasses stands in a muddy field by a house, slowly pouring dirt on the ground. This is Splendour, but it’s not clear if this is her first or last name. She goes in, takes off her dirty dress and throws it in the garbage, then takes it out of the garbage and throws it in the laundry. She goes outside and starts reading in the snow, but it’s warm. She’s reading a thick book she’s obsessed with. She’s read it dozens of times before. The last chapter is about a visit with a therapist or doctor in town, called the hijabi. Her glasses break and the arms of the glasses come off. Her parents, who are caring, have to order her new glasses. Mimi and scruffy are there, but they’re about 40, very old for a cat. Splendour wanders the house. Her uncle tried to learn more about her situation, but she’s mostly ignoring him. She does tell a long story about what happens next in the book, which is important because it’s not in the novel. He reports back. She gets her new glasses. There is a scene where the uncle and his two brothers are at a table. The uncle is set to perform a little skit about food safety. He’s reading it from a script but keeps reading the stage directions out loud. His brothers put up clear masks and he smashes a plate of wet flour with a mallet, making a mess. Later his brother, who looks like a more rectangular Ted Cruz, does a “magic trick” of catching an object and throwing it back. He’s mentally handicapped, but everyone is supportive of him. There is a lot more to the dream. I am in the role of Splendour for most of the dream, blind when she breaks her glasses. She looks like an awkward Anya Taylor Joy. The book is important. She wants to write and direct the sequel to Avatar. The therapist in the city has a parrot. Her mother, who we don’t see, is played by Tilda Swinton. A scene of snow cascading down a rocky cliff.
