Empty descent

The dream started at the top of a staircase, possibly made of stone painted white (like in mediterranean countries). I started walking down with someone behind me and the walls around us were white but also had windows looking into other people's houses/apartments. There were a couple of doors too. Every room was empty when i looked in and they gradually got messier and darker. Throughout all of this there was somehow a light, probably coming from above shining down but it lasted for longer than would be possible. The windows became less frequent and more open doors leading to dark spaces. Eventually we reached the bottom and it was like a big concrete basement, somehow dimly lit by an invisible light source and completely empty. Suddenly we heard footsteps quickly descending the stairs and there was a big jumpscare of something attacking me or the person i was with. I didnt know becuase i detached myself from first person when i knew something was about to happen. There was more to the dream but it was either personal/irrelevant or i forgot.
