What could possibly go wrong? I ask, as a 5’3”, 109 lbs woman, walking out of a phone store at night. I see other people walking or about to leave as well, but of course I’m too chicken to ask any of them to walk me to my car. It’s only a little ways away, but there are still plenty of scenarios playing in my head on what I could encounter on my way- and I don’t like any of them. But none of them happen as I frantically stride out of the door, my book in one hand, my keys in the other. Instead, a scrawny, tall man strides up next to me. His height alone makes me nervous, but I am angered when he grabs my book and tosses it to the ground, sputtering all sorts of things at me about how women shouldn’t read. I’m only 20 ft from my car but it feels like miles, and this man isn’t going to leave me alone- I can tell. I spot a guy I know- who is about the same height and weight as me (not too comforting but at least I recognize him). I call him over and he stands to try and protect me while I frantically call the police. But next time I look up from my phone, this guy has a bat in his hand and he’s swinging it pretty damn hard at my friend. Things get a little blurry from there, but on account of my previous dream where I was bludgeoned to death with an axe, I wouldn’t be surprised if I died in this one too.
