Opening up to my cousin

I was back in high school. I was in the theatre and this teacher was getting people to go up on stage and write a letter to someone in their family. I began writing a letter to one of my cousins I don’t talk to. We share an abuser but we have never spoken about it. The letter was very long and heartfelt and I started sobbing. I expected more people to be crying but I was the only one. I looked into the crowd and my cousin was sitting in one of the theatre seats and staring at me. I went to give her the letter and told her a bit about what it was about. I asked her if we could plan a day to both vent and open up about everything we had endured as children, and she hugged me and agreed. Later I was in the hallway and I couldn’t remember where my locker was. I was upset that my high school boyfriend and best friend no longer went to my school. I felt completely lost, scared, and alone.
