Leaving a dog behind ? why

so i had a dream that i met this dog with a messed up leg and it was so sweet and cute and i was sitting by it on the sidewalk and we were just chillin and then this girl crossed by it and said that it was her dog and the dog started limping towards her but she walked away faster so that he couldn't get to her and then i found a letter or a post about the dog and she was talking about how that dog saved her life emotionally and helped her when she was sick. And i was like wtf so u can't do the same for him? this dream kinda summed up how i think a lot of people are just takers and don't reciprocate anything
