My name is a difficult one to say so for now I’ll substitute with Maya. I was a young Kayling, a creature that was neither male nor female as they could change their sex based on necessity at the time. They tended to feed off the fears of others, stealing a part of their life-force in a way, but often never taking so much that it killed their prey. The hard part about this… I was on the run with my fiancee. We’d been discovered by some humans. My fiancee had killed one of them who was trying to kill me… and used his rokai, our natural powers, to do so. We ran. We got separated at some point. I was on my own as I tried to find somewhere to rest. Pain seared my soul. Something wasn’t right. I felt fear of my own for the second time in my life. (The first had been when my fiancee killed who was trying to kill me.) I ran far into the iron jungle that was the city. It was a desolate jungle of few working buildings and many broken ones. How long had I been running? What year was this? How did the humans survive in this wasteland? I could hear someone calling my name. My true name instead of Maya. I felt pain in my left leg. Something had pierced me but I had to keep running. I had the cube. The thing that controlled the androids. The thing that could stop them from the deaths they were causing. I just needed time to unscramble its code. I hid it. The cube is safe. I got deeper in the woods and managed to change form. To change from that more feminine adult form to a male teenager in appearance. I moved through the iron jungle without being seen. I pushed towards the hiding place of the cube. Taking a somewhat scenic route in case I was being followed. I had my rokai to help me if things got bad. Where was my fiancee? How many decades had past between our separation and this android army’s uprising? What had happened to him? The cube was in my hands now. I don’t know how long I have but I must try. I began moving around the coding to get everything deactivated and saw the true deactivation code. The code that would be my salvation. The code that would stop these androids from the needless killing that they’ve done. One word that was a scramble of letters and numbers, yet clear as day to me. Just the one word: G3N0C1D3. (I awoke after that.)
