Dog attack and relationship

I was in the car, girlfriend in the driving seat, had an argument and got out and walked to the supermarket. I sat down next to a scruffy looking guy and had smalltalk, he goes quiet and then across the car park at the petrol station there is a massive dog fight. All sizes of dogs piling on top of each other all fighting. The owners split it up, some get hurt. I notice some owners laughing about it. I dont think its funny. I ask the guy next to me if hes ok? He replies “im not okay at all” and starts to cry. I try to concole him. My girlfriend turns up walking, her clothes have changed.
