A pale lemon snake is sliding up the wall by the bed post, maybe cigar thick, 2 feet long. Steady, but not too fast. I step back. D wants to take it to school so I won't kill it, won't catch it yet. There are 3 nails sticking out the bottom of the wall's molding above the bed and the snake instinctively takes a 90 degree turn before the sharp points, snuggling up against the molding as it slides smoothly over the top of the bed, quickly now, silk skin against the smooth acrylic wood. It continues across the molding of the next wall and then straight down into a pile of boxes and clothes, well hid. We will take it to the school. I am impressed by my restraint and bravery as I am usually irrationally terrified of snakes. I hope is hasn't left babies.
