Dream: Defending The Enemy

My name was Aria. I was about 28 years of age. I had long chocolate brown hair and bright honey gold eyes. I had an olive-toned tan and typically stuck to sundresses worn over top jean capris with sandals and a shawl. (It’s rare i remember so much descriptors for myself in dreams so this had to be typed.) I was a talented wind and light mage. Though talented, I tended to hide these abilities and focused mostly on using my more clairvoyant abilities. Usually to help those who are grieving get some closure or to help find lost loved ones. Clairvoyants just seemed to be far more accepted in society these days compared to mages. I was on my train ride home when I noticed a kitten in the seat across from me. I scooped it up in my arms and felt its life force was weak. If I didn’t help it then it could very likely die. So I took it with me in hopes of getting it to my home where I could best use my light magic to heal it. When I hopped off the train I was spotted by an old comrade of mine. His name was Jackson and he didn’t like me having the kitten. In fact, he was determined to kill it. Said he’d hurt me to stop me from saving the kitten if he had to. This pained me. I had always secretly loved Jackson. He’d always been a man of honor. Someone who you could turn to in hard times. Yet now I was having to run from him for both my own safety and the safety of this kitten. So I took off running until I had just enough of an open area and flew off. As I flew off I could hear the sounds of him arguing with another man. I assumed they were working together to end the life of this kitten. All I knew was that this whole situation was painful for me emotionally but I planned to keep this kitten alive. I kept going, using my light magic to bend the light around me so I could fly unnoticed. I eventually reached one of several of my safe houses. Inside I immediately heard the concern of the spirits that rested in the different dolls around the home. Each one trying to figure out what was wrong. “Miss Aria please talk to us!” one cried out after I set the kitten on my bed and dug through my dresser drawers. “Keep an eye on the grounds. This kitten is in danger from someone I once trusted. No one can be let in.” I told them as their buzzing chatter started to quiet down and I felt them all take up positions around the grounds. I quickly changed out of my main clothes and tossed on a pair of shorts. I about managed the rest of my clothes when I heard an explosive sound not far from the house. I grabbed a robe of mine instead and tied my sandals onto me. I scooped up the kitten and flew off out of the cabin. With a few symbol motions of my free hand, I released the spirits from their dolls to be able to get out of there safely. I was flying for a while. Running for even longer after that. I took to back alleys and eventually a forest I had grown up in. All while trying to keep the kitten safe. “Hang in there, little one. I will protect you.” I whispered as I ran. I was eventually cornered. I’d reached an opening in the forest and was about to take flight but Jackson’s partner had lassoed my ankle. Making sure I couldn’t get far. I couldn’t let loose the full force of my wind magic without chancing any innocents nearby. It was camping season. I’d seen tents as we ran. I knew people were out here so I knew they could get hurt. I got yanked to the ground by the partner’s rope. I curled around the kitten to keep them safe. “Just let us end this, Aria.” Jackson told me sternly. “It’s an innocent creature. Why are you so determined to kill it?!” I snapped at him. At the same time, I was pushing my light magic into the kitten to heal it. “I’ll make sure you live through this…” I hear a man’s voice whisper in my mind. I keep my back to them. The robe barely managing to cover my back and shoulders with how torn it’s become. Jackson’s partner snickers at me as he yanks hard on the rope, dragging me closer to them. I fight against it but it still hurts like hell. “That thing isn’t a kitten. He’s the enemy.” Jackson explains to me after smacking the arm of his partner. I like to think it was because of how rough his partner was being but I don’t know the actual reasoning. “You’re delusional Jackson. Shifters are extinct. This is just a kitten who has been through hell because of you.” I told him sternly as I continued to heal the kitten. “I don’t want to hurt you Aria, but I will if it means stopping that asshole from doing any more damage.” Jackson told me. The kitten squirmed out of my grasp and grew in size. It’s form changed as it swiftly became a man of maybe 25 years. He wore jeans and a tank top and had a gun pointed at my head. I stared up at him in surprise and he gave me an almost apologetic expression as I heard in my mind the words, “If i shoot at you, they’ll be too worried to come after me. I must finish what i started.” I then woke up with the sound of a gunshot ringing in my ears.
