The diamond dealers

J has made a complicated deal with some dodgy seeming businessman. I’m implementing the administration side of the deal at a factory/office building. Then I go to visit our new partners J has told them that I am an expert on diamonds 🤭There are three people in the hotel room, the two businessmen I am going to meet and the mother of one of them. I call-in and the meeting goes well but as I go to leave the lead partner wants to show me the diamonds. It occurs to me that I know nothing about diamonds and this will quickly become obvious. So I make an excuse when my phone bleeps and exit, only to come back and use the toilet moments later. When I come back the partner more or less insists that I look at the diamonds immediately,and I agree, with much trepidation. It turns out that the “diamonds” are actually diamond cutting tools that the guy has salvaged from some machinery and that he actually knows almost nothing about them. So I can assess them reasonably well and don’t have to worry about bullshitting 😅 🌅
