another oldie. i'd actually watch a movie like this just for the heck of it. I remember I was watching a movie of some sort, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called. It was a zombie movie of some sort, and I found it on Netflix. It was a live action movie, but instead of humans, all the characters were these nondescript bird-like people. I can't exactly place how they looked, though. The concept was that they were in a small city, with walls that had been built to keep an unknown threat out. The area inside the cityscape was mostly pristine white sidewalks and small buildings which had far too many glass windows, and the area outside the city was forests as far as the eye could see, with trees larger than the entire city, or maybe it was just a tiny bird city. The first point I can remember in the movie was two children (whose names I can't remember) and a old lady named Nana had to go down to the basement of their apartment complex to fetch a pair of scissors. Heading down the brick stairs, the shiny light blue walls slowly got darker and grungier as they descended. Soon, they reached the actual basement, which was a dim and damaged place. Stuff was scattered everywhere, and there was probably mold in the corners of the walls, but nobody confirmed that it was mold. After rummaging through some stuff for a while (and Nana reminding them to watch out for something), everyone heard a shrill squeaking noise. A little inky black blob slinked out of the shadows and lunged for the first of the two children, the one who was the main character of the film. Nana swung the scissors she had finally found at it, and it popped into a cloud of black smoke. A few more in all sorts of different shapes - an emaciated dog, an overly-long snake, and an apple tree?? - began showing up, but before any could do anything, a white-and-grey cat (that happens to look exactly like my grandma's cat named Sweet) smashed through a window and attacked the sludge. The sludge disappeared in an instant, and the children immediately went to asking Nana if they could keep the cat. Nana allowed it, and the children named him Astley. As in Rick Astley. I'm not joking here, apparently Rick Astley sponsored this movie. Having the scissors she needed, Nana said it was time for everyone to go back upstairs, after checking to make sure nobody but the cat touched any of the goo-things. She said "Remember, kids! If you touch the infection, you'll get sick too!" So basically, the black ink things were the zombies in this film. Luckily, cats were immune to it. On the way back up, they took an escalator instead, and while riding up the stairs, Main Character Child looked behind them and saw another black goo thing. This one was shaped like a long, thin humanoid, and just grabbed Main Character's hand. Panicking, they looked at their hand, only to find out that the goo spelled out "im sorry" and just completely vanished without any infection. Looking back up, the goo-humanoid was gone. When they reached the top of the stairs, Main Character washed their hand just in case, and didn't say anything about it to Nana, who had left to do something. The transition after this is pretty blurry, but eventually Main Character found themself in the streets of the city, watching in horror as the goo-things attacked a group of people. Some tried to shoot at it, but whenever a bullet struck, it just passed through the things. Then, somehow, the true way to avoid infection was revealed - rapidly kissing the cheek of someone you care about would protect both you and the other. There was no explanation for how or why it worked, it just did. When the few people left figured it out, they rapidly kissed each other, and with no viable targets left, the goo things retreated to who-knows-where. At this point, I decided to turn off the TV and see if this movie ever started making more sense - AKA I decided to go on the internet. From what I read on some websites that don't exist in the real world, the original novel the movie was based on had the prevention measure be "not having ever used a gun in your life", and the novel was more anti-gun than "power of love", but both the novel and the book pulled it off really badly so it didn't matter all that much. Other than that, the movie was loved for being unique in the zombie movie genre. Just for the heck of it, I decided that next i'd look up information on Nana, not suspecting much because she hadn't even been on-screen since the basement trip. ...Turns out she was a very major character and I spoiled myself massively on her backstory. Nana's actual name was NANA-7, and she was a machine constructed after NANA-6, originally made to replace a lady called Nana that her creator was mourning, but because he couldn't just settle to bring his grandma back, he also fitted her with all sorts of weaponry. The first 5 NANAs were a failure, and only NANA-7 and NANA-6 actually functioned. They were made in such a way that they functioned almost exactly like real people, with artificial flesh and organs and everything. Apparently, NANA-7's darkest secret was that once, while out on some sort of mission, she and NANA-6 got tied up in vines. They were stuck like that for weeks, and the backup food they brought had ran out. Neither of them knew that they couldn't actually starve to death, so in desperation, NANA-7 ate NANA-6. Horrified at what she had done, she never told anybody, but later on hot dogs were invented anyway, which were apparently made from the corpses of dead bird-people, and was the highest honor after death. Even after everybody became nonchalant about cannibalism, NANA-7 still felt like what she did was horrible, especially considering NANA-6 was still "alive" at the time. Then, I found a little ticket on the side of my desk that said "Your chance to win - a concert by Rick Astley to promote our movie! Remember to practice your rapid kissing skills!" Laughing it off, I decided to go back and watch the movie. I had let it running for a while, and when I came back, Main Character was running away through the gate to the city, which was unguarded due to all the guards being zombified and hunting down citizens. Main Character sat in the shade of the giant trees in the woods, crying for some reason that I completely missed. Eventually, Nana(-7) and the other child character opened the door and asked why Main Character was out here. They said that they were scared and that this was a safe place, and Nana was completely taken aback. I can remember these lines word for word. "There are too many infected in the city! I don't wanna be infected, it's safer out here." "Sonny… where did you think them infected came from?!" It quickly dawned on the child what she meant, and ominous clouds started closing in on where they stood, so they dashed back into the city. Peeking over the walls, they saw to there horror that a wall of goo was stretching out higher and higher over the city walls, forming a dome and blocking out the sun. Just as a wad of goo slammed into Nana, trapping her, I woke up.
