post apocalyptic mountain journey for a better life

I was in some sort of competition around Christmas that was like hunger games for the fact people die for entertainment sometimes to gain a better life from the government than what they had had already. it was in a cold, mountainous area and the entire world was watching. we had to pack everything we thought we'd need good every climate and then once we got there we could decide what of our things we wanted but we would have to carry it all. Matt and I were a team and w has to little kids but I don't know if they were our children or not. one boy one girl. and there was this mean old lady who wasn't on our team. we took a train to the mountain place and Matt and I had sex on the train of course, around people who were on other teams but we didn't care. we just wanted to for a last time before we could die. I had a lot of blankets in my blue bin so we brought them. we also grabbed some really long rope and extra clothes and shoes. while riding the train, we had also put together a map of the mountains out of clues that were given to us, and it ended up being the puzzle that we did. but when we were about to walk to the gate we realized no one had the pack with the blankets and that was probably the most important one. it also had our knives. so we had to go back to the train for it and luckily they let me on. the mean old lady was in there playing piano and singing trying to convince the workers that she would be allowed on the rest of the journey and that she was good enough. we just grabbed our things and tried to leave, but a little hand grabbed me from the shadows and it was dirty and grimy. I yanked my arm away and peered into the dark corner to see a group of about 15 children, dirty and sad and some disfigured. the one who grabbed my arm pointed to the mountains and said they come from there and could I please help them. I asked then how and she said they wanted to learn more, to be more like the rest of the world and not like savage freaks. I told her when my journey starts, if we find each other again, I would see what I could do, but something about them made me not trust them at all. I was afraid of them and wondered if it was my first test and if I would have to defend my life from any of them later. especially the one with red and black scabs all over his little child face. it was cold. we got the things we forgot and left the train holding hands. we walked to the gate where the rest of the teams were now waiting for it to begin. the crowds were screaming so loudly I thought I'd lose my hearing. there were millions of people watching and it occurred to me that the world had ended already and we had been in a process of rebuilding for some time. I woke up when the gates opened.
