Stuck on the road

I was with a small group of friends on a ride through some old muddy backroads in an SUV of some kind. We kept breaking down and I’d have to put on the emergency break while they worked on it. I kept struggling to find the things we needed to fix the truck while they performed some really strange repairs. One of which involved exposing a manhole cover and attaching the car to some kind of underground power source. They put some strange part on the truck and we were able to power it for a while, but the manhole and the truck started smoking like it was about to catch fire so we disconnected it. We got up a small hill when it died again.
