swimming on open water

I was, with some other people, swimming on open water. The water was crystal clear, or like a turquoise water you see on TV. It was sunny and everybody had something like a backpack with them. We were on our way to an island or so. A voice from somewhere then said, we can also swim to the island which was under us. I was looking down and could see another sea with islands. The only thing I remember what I was thinking, was that for how long do I have to hold my breath to dive there. And again...Nothing on the Internet for this....
