Broken Nails

I was sitting in a class that was like a mock-CASEE just trying to get my shit together. It was like any other tiring day—loads of work, never caught up. I was grumbling at my desk which I shared with three of my peers: Caleb, Catelyn, and Dante. The desks were oriented like they are in my math class, which was weird, despite actually being at CASEE. I didn’t want to focus on my work because my fingernails were messed up. I had broken two or three of them doing something earlier (wasn’t a part of the dream). Two of them were mild breaks, like they had bent backwards for a moment and were pliable enough to somewhat regain their usual form. The other one was my right thumb which had been jaggedly split right down the middle. I was busy filing my nails down so further injury couldn’t occur. I’ll need to find some really strong glue to help keep it together. The class droned on a bit and eventually class time was over. I was still filing the last of my nails down, taking care specifically to the injured ones. I was on the broken thumb, trying to shorten it without causing further injury as under the nailbed was visible. Luckily, there was no blood. I was getting more antsy for some glue. Caleb, Catelyn, and Dante were talking about some sort of song Dante had made and attached an odd picture of Catelyn to it as the album cover. She was wearing a yellow wool poncho and looking off to the right in the cover, a darkish-vibrant red made her pop out. She was wearing an expression that looked similar to a photo I took of her in real life. The album cover was rectangular, being tall. Dante had been playing the song as the bar on his phone was a quarter to a third of the way through, but he’d paused it. It has played, but I don’t recall that. Caleb was holding Dante’s brick of an Android phone (thick black case) and wanted to show me. I humored him and got caught up looking at the picture of Catelyn. She looked pretty cute as she always does. My classmates were jittering about going outside of the classroom to explore the school, maybe because it was the first chance they had after coming to a new room. They were getting up while I sat intently, filing my poor thumbnail. It REALLY needed glue and I wasn’t intending on going anywhere until it was “fixed”. Unlike real life Caleb, dream Caleb shocked me: “C’mon, [Leafie], let’s go explore the school!” He seemed genuinely excited in a more childish way than he’s ever acted, especially towards me. The weird part is that he was smiling with his braces-adorned teeth as he said it. Somehow this weird exchange softened me to stop worrying about my broken nails, so k decided to go with them and explore around this supposed new school.
