Christmas and Bears

We were in the Quad Cities. Mike Scholz and I were at a house, waiting for a female to come outside. She was going to celebrate Christmas with us. There were large bears guarding the house, we were nervous. It was snowing. The female finally came out. We were all scared of the bears and trying to figure out a way to leave without the bears realizing it. Somehow, we did. My parents were supposed to pick us all up, but didn’t. It was a blizzard. We started walking but couldn’t walk down the hill. Some bad men came up to us. They told us we had to know the truth, but they wanted to hurt us. Parts of the state of Illinois were barricaded and we couldn’t go to certain places. The men had weapons, but the female somehow helped us escape. We got to my parents’ house, but the female disappeared. My mom was talking to Mike in German; they were both ignoring me. We exchanged gifts, but Mike was still ignoring me and I was uncomfortable became I wasn’t understanding him. We were watching TV and they were showing a map of Illinois. It kept flashing. It wasn’t on the screen the whole time, but it was there long enough for us to see it. The course of the Mississippi River had totally changed. There was a smaller creek where the river had been and there was a very large river (much larger than the Mississippi, really) about 50 miles to the west of where the Mississippi had been. This is why there had been areas barricaded, there were so many people that had died and had been displaced. I was very upset about the whole situation. Mike was upset, but he couldn’t convey it in English.
