summer camping in fairbanks

Visiting up north in the summer, it is sunny and Josh’s friends plus a few Anchorage bike polo people are getting ready to backpack. We all walk with gear into the woods and stop by a beautiful sunny green grass field clearing surrounded by empty campsites and trees. Jenna hops on a mountain bike and pedals through the trees. I follow her and see her biking down a gorgeous shallow but wide creek. Friend Morgie comes over and comments about how beautiful it is and we sit in the grass and talk about his dog sledding ventures and raising dogs. He comments “you can smoke a joint out here, one bigger than you can bring on an airplane” and this repeats in my head a few times as I walk back to my tent I before I wake up.
