Tree roots chasing me in water

I dreamed I was at a lake with aunt Susie and cousins . We were swimming to the dock and I smelt a weird smell and noticed the water getting murky. I looked behind me and saw roots swimming toward me making the water murky and smell funny. I tried to swim away from them and noticed my cousins were not phased . So my awareness went into the air to try to figure this out and I saw a giant giant tree trunk/stump on the island in the lake from which all it’s roots were coming out.
