fog laden irish elk

the sky is grey and fog covers the ground of the hilly field i stand in. clumps of shortish trees with fat trunks are scattered here and there throughout the field, but i can only see so much because of the fog. i round a tree on top of a hill only to see a herd of irish elk gathered around a particularly large, low hanging tree. i walk quickly down the hill and find that the herd’s being watched by two or three men. i go and talk with them for a moment, but then one of the men scoops up a bag of what i think is some special, dare i say sacred, deer feed from the ground near another man’s feet. the man shouts some bold departing statement and then lifts up a patch of grass and slips into the magical portal beneath it. my first instinct is to follow the theif, so i go with this instinct. the portal leads to a capacious room with a vaulted ceiling. it looks like it could be a room from a renaissance era castle, except it’s cluttered with piles of all kinds of stuff. the man is nowhere to be found, so i go back. back in the foggy field, i walk slowly up to the herd of elk. one lone calf approaches me and lets me pet its little head. it seems like a privilege. there’s a lapse of time and then i’m back in the large room- the one the portal had led to. i enter another room, smaller, that’s connected to it and find there’s a letter sitting on a big wooden table, addressed to me. i open it only to discover that it’s from one half of the pair of (completely nonexistent) twins from my kindergarten class. his name is anthony and he’s sent me my own math homework but he’s written corrections and explanations in red pen? it’s well meaning though, so i don’t question it. then all of a sudden, my cousin hannah- irritating and feeble minded hannah- shows up in the room and starts complaining about something or other. seemingly unable to withstand her brattiness any longer, my brain draws the dream to a close.
