I am playing a demo for the new MassEffect sequel. I am living the game. I am flying in some little ship, bored. I find a pamphlet for an entertainment system. There is a line of green ooze that I follow on the pamphlet. It opens up and has lots of text, but I don’t bother reading it all. It keeps unfolding and getting bigger and bigger. I don’t find out about the entertainment system, but I do get an STI on my hand. I arrive at a station. The infection is detected and my hand is quarantined. A solid crystal ball appears around my hand, surrounded by gold rings. A golden wasp (a sphere with four wings) hovers around my thumb. The crystal ball is clear, and you can see fantastical molds and mushrooms growing inside. I find an office where I talk with the director, in a nice white uniform. He explains that this is just a demo of the full game. There is a cure for my infection on the desk. I ask if I can have it and he and no, throwing it out the door. He explains that I can replay the demo as often as I want. It seems short, but there are more decisions to make. I can avoid the pamphlet, or sell my ship and buy a gun. The sphere around my hand shrinks and my hand is back to normal.
