I had to take my 8 year old son to get some food following the tsunami disaster, and we had to go down a long dark man made tunnel. We were in about 15 ft and it was getting darker and darker and we could hear a creature approaching us. It was a rodent about the size of a raccoon, and it started nipping at my son. I tried to chase it away and as I was doing this it became more and more hostile. It was jumping at me aggressively and trying to bite me, so I knew I had to take it out or it would hurt us both. I grabbed a long silver metal object and stabbed at it. It said “ouch, you hurt me,” as I had nicked him in the neck. I then stabbed through the side of its neck and into the ground so it was trapped laying on its side with its neck skewered. It said, “oh, I can’t believe you hurt me,” in a high pitched voice that was so woeful and pathetic. I watched as it began to gurgle and I began to think about how it was probably in pain, so the most humane thing to do would be to put it out of its misery. I looked around for a large rock to bash its head in, but I just couldn’t find anything to finish the job so it continued to lay there gurgling. I thought how it would have a long painful death. I was feeling proud that I was able to handle the situation as I did and protect us, but I was also filled with remorse as I had hurt a living creature and it was in pain. I never like to hurt any living thing.
