It started with me on my bus going home from school. My best friend, Caitlyn, was not there and I assumed her Mom picked her up early for some reason. On the way home, I remember my bus driver had a very upset look on her face and she was speeding. All the kids on the bus asked her what was wrong, but she would not say. I saw huge airplanes just rolling on the ground like sucker fish in random places and army guys with guns walking around that looked like sharks. When I got home, there was a note on my door. I noticed every front door to each house on my street had one. I cannot remember exactly what the note said, but it went something like this... -In two hours... •Do not go outside •Do not drink drain water •Find an underground shelter •The time has come to hide, for war is upon us. I was getting freaked out. My sister came home from her school and we got the cats into their cat cages, in case we had to find an actual shelter like the note said. I started texting people and my parents for answers, but no one responded. I think the Internet connection was down. Just in case, I got a safety kit together in a book bag. Luckily, my Dad came home from work a little later. He said in about an hour, America would be destroyed. An enemy of war was going to kill everyone. He told me to pack food, water, small memories, the cat's stuff, money, and whatever I could that I needed. Soon, my Mom came home and helped. It was getting dark out and the street lights turned on. It started pouring rain. Everyone outside that was walking around when I looked out my window wore snow gear to protect themselves. People were walking around, finding shelter or friends. Ashlee, one of my best friends that lives near me, came to our house. I hugged her and we talked. Me: Ashlee! Where is your family? Ashlee: I don't know. They aren't home. Me: I tried texting Caitlyn. She didn't respond. Ashlee: I think they're Mom pulled them out of school to take them somewhere. I'm assuming it's away from here. Me: I can't believe this is happening. It's like a book. Ashlee: I'm reading a book right now where a dog knows something bad is coming, but no one believes him. Then, a dog came up to us, pulling against the leash his owner held. He started whimpering and jumping. He was big and tan with curly fur. Me: What was the title of your book? Ashlee: Mesh Me: That should be the name of this battle because so many bad things are gonna mesh together, according to my Dad. We sat on he front porch in our snow gear. The rain has stopped. A siren started going off around us. My Mom came out... Mom: We reserved a shelter underground. We are taking the cat's and leaving soon. Me: Can Ashlee come with? Her family isn't- My Mom doesn't look happy with my question. As if we just can't do that. Ashlee: I want to find my family. Me: Okay. Good luck. Ashlee: Make sure you pack pictures and memories, to remember your friends. I am. Me: I will. The dog was still there. Ashlee runs away back home. I watched her go down the street in the dark. I'm sweating from the warm temperature in my snow gear. I run up to my room and grab lots of pictures, my blanket, phone, charger, Unwind book, Matched book, and other stuff. When I get downstairs, my sister and Dad are loading the car. The dog is sitting on the stairs, although no one notices him. My Mom is running around, packing things away when all of a sudden, we hear the piano in the basement playing. Mom and I look at each other because no one is downstairs. My Mom goes down and I go outside. My Dad, my sister, and I get in the car with the cats. We have the liter box, food, and water and all we need. My sister is hugging her stuffed animals. My Mom suddenly comes in. She says playing the piano was her Mom (my grandma, who died before I was born) and that they talked. She said goodbye to her Mom. We drove to a nearby place where people were being loaded into the ground. Dad: We have a reservation. A worker led us to a small underground room where we all sat. It was dark and hot. The cat's meowed a lot. I started to read. A big light came through the hole in our door. Mom peeked her eye in and said she saw lights or bombs stretching across the sky. Armies of men were going around killing people. Luckily, we were never caught, but afterwards, every building was destroyed. Our house was gone along with the dog. I have no idea if Ashlee lived, but I know Caitlyn, Maddy, and Taydem did because they all texted me. During this whole time, we had to wear gas masks because everything was dusty. Life was going to be completely different. Any teacher that lived taught in bunkers until schools were built. People lived underground. There were very few survivors because only some knew about the underground reservations. My family got lucky. Waking up, I realize how much my life means to me and how important my friends are. I also realize that life could end at any moment.
