Sand sleds

I was in a large group riding through the desert. Instead of a bike, we were on a kind of sled. There was a flat foot an the front and a track at the back, s little like a snowmobile. One foot operated a foot pedal like a manual sewing machine to propel the sled. The other was outstretched or tucked under to brake. Steering is by leaning side to side. My sled was broken, and I ended up far behind the pack. I had to push the sled forward with my hands.
