Oh no

There was some weird fish lizard thing that was attracted to certain noises. It would eat pretty much everything that moved and a town low by the river that would often flood had developed a glowing lure thing that made noises that attracted the thing much better than most noises, and the fact that it glowed got the beasts attention too. This youngish guy was basically a dad to a couple of orphan girls and he was constantly going back and forth between the town and his home further up the hill to make sure they were safe because he was dad. It was adorable. Eventually he was found out by some weird charity group who just sort of drug him around town to find out his story and what was going out. Then the government of the town tried to raid his house for some reason but he and the charity people showed up and kicked some butt since they forced their way inside which wasn't something they were supposed to do.
