PD Session, Trigonometry, & Shoes

It was a half day at school for the kids but the teachers had to stay a full day until 3:45pm. We had a professional development session in a gymnasium (which doesn’t exist at the school I work at) and all the teachers were sitting in a large circle. We were discussing ways to improve teaching and they were testing a new math curriculum for third grade. The administrators passed out trigonometry problems on a worksheet for us to complete. This reminded me of high school pre calculus class where we learned trigonometry and used substitutions to solve complex problems. Somehow all the trigonometry knowledge came back to me and I was able to solve all the problems. I was the only one out of all the teachers who solved all the problems correctly. Because of this, the administrators were questioning if the material was appropriate for third grade, and if they should simplify it. After the PD session, a black woman appears and introduced herself. She was a fuller figured woman, was average in height, and was wearing a nurse’s outfit. She was the dance teacher at the school in the other district and she was going to teach a little dance to all the teachers. So we all spread out and learned the dance. I had fun dancing and it was a great way to stretch after sitting for a long time! The PD session was over and suddenly I was in the faculty lounge. The lounge was bigger and had a major upgrade. It had white cabinets, a kitchen sink, and an island. It looked like a real kitchen! I saw my colleague, the art teacher, in the lounge and we were talking and drinking tea. I was wearing my new Tory Burch flats and I didn’t know that it was supposed to rain in the afternoon. I was so worried that the shoes would get ruined since I can’t wear them in the rain. So I was searching frantically for plastic or something to cover the shoes when it was time to walk to my car. I had no luck and could not find any plastic or cover ups. So I darted to my car and risked ruining my shoes. As I was running, the rain stopped, although there were a few puddles here and there. I made it to my car and my shoes weren’t ruined after all!
