Monster-In-Law

Blane and I have just gotten married and we’re staying at my dad’s house with all of our family that was in town for the wedding. I’m standing in the kitchen with my Aunt Alison. She has apparently gained a little weight since the last time I saw her. She’s telling me about their new house in Jacksonville. I turn to ask my cousins how they like it there, and they suddenly both have bright blue/green eyes… My new mother-in-law (who is somehow my coworker’s mom, LeighAnn, that volunteers in Kids) and I are planning to wash her dog—a light-haired chihuahua mix with a long body. We go into the garage and I ask her where the dog’s towel is. This question sets her off and she starts yelling at me. She calls me stupid and a bitch and says a few other rude things to me. At first, I’m taken aback. Then, I go inside to start packing my things up to go home. I tell Blane we’re leaving and I turn to Miranda (my coworker) and tell her, “I’m sorry, I have nothing against you, but I can never speak to your mother again.” Through tears, I begin making my rounds to say goodbye. I tell my sisters what happened and say “Can’t I ever marry into a normal family?? I’m not divorcing Blane because of this, but this is ridiculous” (for some reason, I think this is my second marriage). While I’m in the kitchen, LeighAnn comes back in from the garage without saying a word. I turn to her and tell her that the way she spoke to me was unacceptable and that I never want to see her again. I go to say goodbye to Aunt Nancy who is already crying but doesn’t know what’s actually going on. I tell her all the things LeighAnn said, which LeighAnn hears and doesn’t deny. She instead tries to smokescreen by calling one of her dogs to her, “Bacco!” (I think to myself that this name is dumb)… I go use the bathroom before we leave and pull open a kitchen drawer to squat down over. I realize this isn’t the drawer my dad apparently keeps the toilet in [what? lol],but LeighAnn is sitting next to the other one, so I use the normal bathroom instead.
