I was at work when my company announced it was basically shutting down, and everyone was losing their jobs (15K+ employees). Part of my dream took place in Slack, and it was interesting because the dream space was physically inside the application’s UI as my team avatars chatted in a circle. I was in a meeting with a coworker talking about what to do with some unfinished business when I realized my wife had been trying to contact me for 30 minutes because I had completely forgotten about a vet appointment amidst the chaos of the company shutdown. When she called me again I answered and she was understanding. She said she would handle it but I just need to get there ASAP because they need my ID. So I started to leave when I found this group of ex-employees working out of a big apartment space, who were basically rebuilding the company’s site from their knowledge of the product. Meanwhile there was a TV in the living room where our CEO was on screen, addressing the situation. Other ex-employees were in the shared space with me, chatting about what they will do to contribute based on their experience. As this was going on, I saw numerous voicemails from my parents. I played the first voicemail and my dad explained in an irritated tone that they haven’t heard from me and was telling me about some properties that were for sale near them. I knew I couldn’t get into that now so I put my phone away and continued onward. I set up a small bedroom as an office space, but was interrupted when a few people came in the door, and started taking peoples things from them and making comments that suggested they were disgruntled ex-employees who blamed some of the people in the room with me for the company shutdown. I went back to my room to try and avoid the conflict. Someone else tried to hide with me, but they were followed by a very large man who looked like a classic Italian mob gangster type. The gangster dragged the person back out of the room to the shared space where the others were. I gathered my things and decided to escape, finding a secret back door in my room. Peaking out the door, I could see a way to escape through a parking lot and alleyways. I stepped out, and as I softly closed the door I saw the big mob guy come back in the room looking for me. Then when I turned around to go down the staircase, a tough looking woman was waiting for me with a smirk at the bottom. Oh shit, I thought. Toward the end of the dream, I was nervously walking away from these mob people through a wooded trail. The mob people were sort of following me and some other person like wolves stalking prey. It was like they were playing a game. We reached a boundary where a different gang greeted us. They let us cross over to their side with an attitude like “good luck!” Then the other mob explained “Welcome! We live in this abandoned hospital, let us take you to your prison cell” We asked if we could just live on our own on the beach nearby and both gangs laughed. I woke up, feeling anxious.
